Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can you make me do things I don't want to do?
A: No, you will be in control the entire time and can stop at any point if you want to.
Q: Are you qualified to practice hypnotherapy?
A: Yes, I have a Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD) and a number of additional qualifications that you can find on the 'about me' section. I am also fully insured, I have an enhanced disclosure and barring service check (DBS) and have monthly supervision as required by my professional body. Hypnotherapy is an unregulated industry so often people practice without appropriate qualifications, if you decide to work with another therapist I would recommend that you check they have the appropriate training and insurance in place.
Q: Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?
A: No, hypnosis is unsuitable for people with conditions such as Psychosis, Schizophrenia and Epilepsy
Q: Can I get stuck in the trance?
A: No, absolutely not. Trance is a natural state that you will have experienced many times, you will naturally come out of it even with no intervention from me.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: How many sessions you will need depends on your presenting concern, outcome that you are aiming for, and also your commitment. These things will be discussed with you in the free, initial consultation and together we will devise a plan that works for you.
Q: What does hypnosis feel like?
A: People's experiences are very different but most describe feeling very relaxed and calm. Often, people liken it to when you are engrossed in a movie and don't hear someone talking to you, or when you are driving and you don't remember getting from point A to point B, but you know that you were driving safely.
Q: Is hypnotherapy like you see on the TV?
A: No. Stage hypnosis is different to the the hypnotherapy that I offer.
Q: Is it guaranteed to work?
A: I will do a thorough initial assessment and develop sessions to best suit you and your presenting concern. I will also check in with you at the beginning and end of each session to ensure that the sessions are still meeting your needs as they may change slightly throughout the process. However, there can be no 100% guarantee that hypnotherapy will work. I am yet to find a hypnotherapist that offers guarantees, so much so, that I would be wary of them if they did.
Q: I feel uncomfortable doing this in person, can we do it online?
A: Yes we can. I use 'Zoom' which is a secure online platform meaning you can enjoy your hypnotherapy session from the comfort of your own home.
Q: I'd like to find out more, what do I do next?
A: You can fill in the contact form below and I will get back to you within 24 hours. We would then arrange a free, no obligation phone or Zoom call to discuss further. During this call you can explain what you need support with, I will explain the hypnotherapy process and how I work and answer any questions you might have. I will then leave you to have a think, speak with other therapists and get back to me if you would like to book a session in.
